Small but mighty, natural Casuarina cones are an essential staple for enriching microhabitats, bioactive terrarium floors, and botanical-method aquascapes. Packed with intricate surface texture, they rapidly establish beneficial microclimates and grazing hubs for invertebrates, cleanup crews, and aquatic life.
Husbandry & Habitat Highlights
- Rapid Biofilm Cultivation: Quickly develops a nutrient-rich grazing biofilm within 24 to 48 hours, providing an immediate, continuous food source for dwarf shrimp (Neocaridina and Caridina), snails, and microfauna.
- Isopod & Springtail Haven: Creates textured micro-shelters across the enclosure floor while serving as a slow-release, nutrient-rich grazing surface for bioactive cleanup crews.
- Gentle Water Conditioning: Imparts a subtle amber tint and releases mild humic acids to gently soften water parameters without drastically darkening the water column—ideal for betta fish and shrimp breeding setups.
- Durable Botanical Ground Scatter: Dense woody composition breaks down far slower than standard leaf litter, providing sustained physical structure and enrichment for weeks to months across damp vivarium substrates.
- 100% Natural & Untreated: Sustainably harvested and naturally dried without bleaching, pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or chemical treatments.
Specifications
- Scientific Name: Casuarina sp. (Casuarina cone, Australian pine cone)
- Average Size: Petite / nano botanical scale (approximately 0.5 to 1 inch; natural variations in size, shape, and hue will occur)
- Habitat Compatibility: Bioactive vivariums, isopod and springtail master cultures, dart frog terrariums, nano setups, and freshwater aquariums (bettas, dwarf shrimp, axolotls, dwarf cichlids, and plecos).
Preparation Guide
- For Terrariums & Bioactive Enclosures: Ready for direct placement. Simply scatter cones across the leaf litter layer or nestle into damp substrate to establish localized micro-shelters and foraging pockets.
- For Aquariums: Rinse thoroughly, boil for 10–15 minutes, and soak in fresh water overnight before adding to the tank. (Recommended starting dose: 3–5 cones per 10 gallons; add more gradually to dial in your preferred water tint).
