Live Organic Superworms

Superworms are an excellent, highly active feeder insect perfect for larger reptiles, amphibians, and birds. We have 2 sizes: Small - Under 1.25 inches long, these are younger worms. Large - Over 1.25 inches long, these are our older, more mature worms. Please note: It is not recommended to feed Superworms to very young or baby bearded dragons, as the thicker chitin can lead to impaction.

BENEFITS FOR REPTILES

• Highly Active: They move aggressively and thrash around, which triggers a very strong feeding response even in notoriously picky eaters.
• Excellent for Weight Gain: With a higher fat content than standard mealworms, they are fantastic as an occasional treat, for helping recovering reptiles put on healthy weight, or for females recovering from laying eggs.
• Easy to Keep Alive: They are incredibly hardy and can be kept at room temperature for months with only basic care.
• Substantial Meal: Our large superworms offer a dense, filling meal for adult bearded dragons, monitors, large geckos, and chameleons.

HOW TO STORE THEM

• Superworms are incredibly easy to store, but they have one massive difference from standard mealworms regarding temperature.
• The Fridge Warning: NEVER put superworms in the refrigerator. Superworms are a tropical species, and cold temperatures will quickly kill them.
• Temperature: Store them at normal room temperature, ideally between 70 F and 80 F.
• Bedding and Ventilation: Keep them in a plastic tub (without a lid, or with a highly ventilated screen lid) filled with 1 to 2 inches of dry substrate like plain wheat bran or rolled oats. The substrate serves as both their bedding and their food.
• Moisture Control: Place slices of carrots, potatoes, or apples on top of the substrate for hydration. Replace the vegetables every few days before they dry out or mold. Never mist the bin with water.

HOW TO SET UP A BREEDING COLONY

• Breeding superworms requires one unique, extra step compared to standard mealworms. Superworms will never pupate (transform into beetles) as long as they are constantly touching other worms.
• Isolate the Worms: To trigger the change, take your largest, most mature superworms and place them into individual, empty compartments (like a plastic hardware organizer, tackle box, or small plastic condiment cups). Do not give them any food or water.
• Wait for Pupation: Deprived of food and isolated, they will curl up in a "C" shape and eventually transform into dormant, white pupae.
• The Beetle Bin: A few weeks later, the pupae will emerge as large black beetles. Move these adult beetles into a breeding bin with 2 to 3 inches of wheat bran or oats and provide vegetable slices for moisture.
• The Next Generation: The beetles will mate and lay eggs in the substrate. After a few weeks, move the beetles to a new bin, and you will soon see hundreds of tiny baby superworms moving in the original bedding!

SHIPPING TIPS

• Please check your weather conditions prior to ordering to make sure inclement weather delays and extreme temperatures are avoided!
• We ship with USPS in the summer and UPS in the winter. If you live in Florida or on the West Coast, we will use USPS year-round (unless you purchase UPS 2nd Day Air or Next Day Air).
• In the summertime, we HIGHLY recommend doing Hold for Pickup at your nearest Post Office. Hold for Pickup means the Post Office will hold your order until you pick it up. Under normal circumstances, the Post Office will call you to let you know it is ready for you to pick up. This option requires no extra steps from you other than your permission and your phone number. Watch your tracking carefully in case the Post Office doesn't call you - sometimes they forget!
• Please understand that when your order leaves our facility and is taken in by the Postal Service or UPS, we no longer have control over its fate. Delays and shipping issues are very common these days, and there is not much we can do to move the package forward when that happens. We do have contacts at USPS, but they can really only give us insight as to where it might be. They cannot predict when it will arrive!
• We've found that most order death occurs in the last leg of the trip, from your local Post Office or UPS hub to your door. This is why Hold for Pickup is so important for hotter or colder temperatures (80+ degrees, or 45 degrees or less).
• Most farms require Hold for Pickup no matter what, or they won't honor a live guarantee. We try to be a bit more flexible than that, but if we see your weather is too hot or cold, please take our recommendation to Hold for Pickup! We promise it's for the best!
• We will do our best to reship orders that arrive dead; please let us know ASAP when this happens. While we don't love to see photos of dead bugs, we may ask for one so we can make adjustments on how we packaged them if needed.
