3D-Printed PETG Ventilated Feeding Hatch for Reptile & Invertebrate Bins
3D-Printed PETG Ventilated Feeding Hatch for Reptile & Invertebrate Bins

Upgrade your tub habitats and rack setups with secure, low-stress daily access. Designed specifically for reptile tubs and invertebrate enclosures, this 3D-printed feeding hatch eliminates the risk and disruption of opening an entire bin lid during routine care. Featuring an integrated mesh screen for continuous fresh air exchange and dual swivel-locking tabs, this port lets you drop in feeder insects, mist localized substrate, or access inhabitants without triggering stress or giving flighty species an open escape path. Precision-crafted in durable PETG, it clamps directly to container walls using a mechanical sandwich design—requiring zero messy glues, melting hot adhesives, or off-gassing chemical silicones.
Setup & Installation Guide
- Access Port Cutout: Using a standard 2" hole saw (or utility cutter), drill the main access hole at your desired height on the flat wall of your enclosure.
- Pilot Hole Preparation: Mark and drill two small 1/8" (approx. 3mm) pilot holes on opposite sides of the opening for the mounting screws.
- Sandwich Assembly: Position the inner and outer hatch collars flush against the tub wall, sandwiching the plastic bin directly between both pieces.
- Locking Tab Securing: Thread the hardware into the aligned holes using a 3mm hex key. Tighten evenly on both sides, adjusting the friction until the tabs swing smoothly into place while firmly clamping the hatch shut.
- Hardware & Tools Needed: 2" hole saw, power drill, 1/8" drill bit, and a standard 3mm hex key (Allen wrench).
Functional & Husbandry Benefits
- Escape-Resistant Routine Access: The 1.5" portal restricts open surface area during feedings, preventing fast-moving geckos, colubrids, spiderlings, and invertebrates from bolting.
- Continuous Cross-Ventilation: Fine integrated mesh promotes steady ambient air exchange, helping eliminate stagnant moisture and mold growth while preserving comfortable humidity levels.
- 100% Adhesive-Free Installation: Clamps firmly around the bin wall using mechanical fasteners, ensuring no volatile chemical odors, fumes, or glue failures in your animal room.
- High-Strength PETG Construction: Printed in premium PETG filament for superior impact resistance, chemical stability, and heat deflection compared to standard PLA—resisting warping in warm reptile environments.
- Dual Friction-Lock Tabs: Independent swivel latches prevent pushy snakes or strong lizards from nosing open the lid from the inside.
