Distinctive, spiky, and packed with complex surface texture, dried sweetgum pods (also known as Witch's Burrs) add dynamic tactile enrichment, micro-shelter, and organic foraging opportunities to bioactive vivariums and aquatic habitats.
Husbandry & Habitat Highlights
- Multi-Chambered Micro-Shelter: The hollow, star-shaped pore openings create intricate hiding crevices and exploration zones for isopods, springtails, and dwarf shrimp.
- Bioactive Cleanup Crew Nutrition: Serves as an engaging grazing platform and a slow-release organic food source, naturally enriching the substrate layer as it decomposes.
- Aquatic Biofilm & Water Conditioning: Promotes dense grazing surfaces of beneficial biofilm while releasing moderate, soothing tannins to condition water naturally in blackwater and biotope aquascapes.
- Textured Ground Scatter: Dense, woody burrs add naturalistic dimension to the enclosure floor, breaking up flat substrate lines and encouraging natural foraging behaviors.
- 100% Organically Sourced: Sustainably harvested in the Southern USA and naturally dried without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, chemicals, or artificial dyes.
Specifications
- Scientific Name: Liquidambar styraciflua (Sweetgum pod, Witch's Burr)
- Package Contents: 10 sweetgum pods
- Average Size: Approximately 1 to 2 inches in diameter (natural variations in size, point density, and hue will occur)
- Habitat Compatibility: Bioactive vivariums, isopod and springtail cultures, dart frog terrariums, nano setups, and freshwater or blackwater aquariums.
Preparation Guide
- For Terrariums & Bioactive Enclosures: Ready for direct placement. Scatter across the leaf litter layer or nestle into damp substrate to establish localized micro-shelters and foraging pockets.
- For Aquariums: Boil pods for at least 15 minutes to release initial tannins and accelerate waterlogging. Soak in clean water overnight (changing water daily) until fully submerged before adding to the tank.
