Recommended Enclosure Sizes

• Ideal Fit (Out of the Box): Formulated specifically for 12" × 12" × 18", 18" × 18" × 18", and 18" × 18" × 24" vertical arboreal terrariums, as well as horizontal terrariums up to 20 Gallons.
• Substrate Bed Depth: The included 8-quart TropicalBase mix provides a deep ~3" base across a 12" × 12" footprint, or a 1.5" to 2" sloped bed across an 18" × 18" footprint.
• Larger Enclosures (18" × 18" × 36" or 40-Gallon+): The hardscape, branches, hides, and 1m × 1.5m mesh will easily scale up, but adding 1 extra bag of drainage LECA and TropicalBase substrate is recommended to achieve optimal planting depth.

Ideal Species

• Crested Geckos & Gargoyle Geckos: Benefit from vertical climbing branches, elevated coconut shelter, and sturdy pothos foliage.
• Mourning Geckos: Thrive in the varied micro-hiding spots provided by the botanical seed pods, terracotta tunnels, and dense canopy cover.
• Dart Frogs & Tree Frogs: Rely on the high humidity retention, deep leaf litter foraging zones, and functioning drainage reservoir to protect plant roots.
• Juvenile Day Geckos & Tropical Anoles: Utilize horizontal basking slate surfaces, textured cork flats, and live climbing vines.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

• 1. Structural Prep (Optional)
  • If anchoring hardscape or ledges to enclosure walls, apply the 100% Silicone Sealant first. Allow it to cure fully for 24 to 48 hours until completely odor-free before adding substrates or animals.
• 2. Establish the Drainage Layer
  • Rinse the Expanded Clay Pebbles (LECA) in clean water to remove dust, then spread them evenly across the bottom of the enclosure to create a 1- to 2-inch drainage reservoir.
• 3. Lay the Substrate Barrier
  • Cut the Substrate Barrier Mesh to the exact dimensions of your tank base. Lay it flat across the clay pebbles to keep the soil from washing down into the drainage basin.
• 4. Mix & Place Substrate
  • Empty the 8-quart bag of TropicalBase Terrarium Mix into a large empty container, add water until you can squeeze the substrate and it holds shape but does not drip.  Pour prewetted substrate over the mesh barrier. Blend in the 12-quart dose of BioShot to inoculate the soil with mycorrhizal fungi and beneficial microbes, then mist until damp (it should clump when squeezed without dripping water).
• 5. Anchor Hardscape & Hides
  • Position the Ribbed Terracotta Tunnel, Rounded Tunnel, and Low-Profile Ceramic Cave on the substrate to establish cool and humid zones.
    • These tunnels can rest on top of the soil or be partially or completely buried beneath the substrate to create secure underground burrows, mimic natural root tunnels, and hold deep humidity pockets.
  • Place the Natural Basking Slate in a primary viewing or gentle basking area.
  • Wedge the 10" Liana Branches and 1 lb Cork Bark flat diagonally to create climbing paths into the mid- and upper-tank levels.
  • Suspend the Natural Coconut Shell Hide in the upper canopy.
    • Heavy-duty twist ties, zip ties, or magnetic plant mounts work great for this 
• 6. Plant the Bioactive Canopy
  • Remove the three Epipremnum aureum (pothos) cultivars from their temporary nursery pots. Gently loosen the root balls and plant them directly into the TropicalBase soil, firming the mix around the roots.
• 7. Add Botanicals & Feeding Stations
  • Scatter the Peruvian Rainforest Leaf Litter and Large Seed Pods across the surface. This layer prevents bare soil contact, slows moisture loss, and feeds your cleanup crew (isopods and springtails).
  • Place the two Forest Wood Slice feeding dishes in easily accessible areas for food and fresh water.
• 8. Establish & Cycle
  • Mist thoroughly and introduce your cleanup crew. Allow the ecosystem to settle for 2 to 4 weeks under terrarium plant lighting so roots establish and microfauna stabilize before introducing your reptile or amphibian.
